What this part is
The SRT5KRMTF is APC's 5 kVA rackmount step-down transformer for the Smart-UPS SRT line. It takes 208 V in and gives you 120 V out across 12 x NEMA 5-20R. The problem it solves is common in mixed racks. The larger SRT units run at 208 V because that is how you get eight or ten kilowatts down a sensible cord, but plenty of the equipment in the same cabinet is 120 V only. Without a transformer you end up with a high-capacity UPS that half the rack cannot use. Adding one converts part of that 208 V capacity into twelve ordinary 120 V outlets on the protected side of the UPS, so the single-voltage equipment gets the same backup as everything else.
Rating and outlets
Rating is 5 kVA (5000 VA). Input is 208 V through a NEMA L6-30P connection, and output is 120 V on 12 x NEMA 5-20R. Size it against the 120 V load rather than against the UPS. Five kVA is the transformer's ceiling, and the twelve outlets will happily accept more equipment than that ceiling allows, so the outlet count is not the limit that matters. It is also worth checking the receptacle type against your cords. APC specifies NEMA 5-20R here; a 5-15P plug will seat in a 5-20R socket, but the reverse is not true, and several dealer listings describe the outlets loosely enough to cause a surprise on delivery.
The 5KTF question
One point of accuracy worth making plainly, because the part numbers are easy to confuse. APC sells several Smart-UPS SRT part numbers with a 5KTF suffix, which are factory bundles of a UPS with a 5 kVA step-down transformer. Schneider does not name the transformer part number inside any of those bundles anywhere in its documentation. APC also sells more than one 5 kVA transformer, and they are not the same part: this one is the 2U rackmount with twelve 5-20R outlets, while SRT5KTF is a tower unit with a different outlet set entirely.
Rack fit and contents
The unit takes 2U of rack height and measures 3.5 x 17.008 x 25.08 in (89 x 432 x 637 mm). Net weight is 95 lb (43.09 kg). APC lists mounting hardware, rack mounting brackets, user manual and warranty card with it. Warranty is 24 months. At that weight it is a two-person lift and it belongs low in the cabinet. A transformer is close to the densest thing that goes into a rack after the UPS itself, and it should be racked and secured before anything is plugged into it.
If an SRT at 208 V is feeding a rack that still has 120 V equipment in it, the APC SRT5KRMTF is how you bridge the two, and we hold it in stock. Contact us to learn more or secure this solution for your business today.
