Key Features

  • Current TSP100IV generation hardware, not the earlier TSP100III chassis.
  • Prints direct thermal receipts at up to 250 mm per second at 203 dpi.
  • Dual interface: 10/100 Ethernet for the network plus USB-C for a directly attached host.
  • Separate USB Type-A host port charges and drives an Android device over Android Open Accessory.
  • Supported on Star CloudPRNT Next, so the printer can be driven from a hosted service.
  • Ships with both cables in the box, a USB-C to USB-A lead and an Ethernet patch lead.
  • At 140 by 169 by 123 mm this is the smallest of the three TSP143 models we stock.
  • Guillotine auto cutter rated for 2,000,000 cuts, with a 100 km print head life.
  • The power supply is built into the printer, so only a mains cord leaves the unit.
  • Drives a cash drawer or external buzzer from the built-in peripheral connector.
  • Takes 80 mm and 58 mm receipt rolls, with the 58 mm paper guide supplied in the box.
  • Energy Star certified, and backed in the United States by a 2-year Star warranty.

Which generation this is

The supplier part description for 39473010 reads TSP143 IVUE, and it is easy to read that as a variant of the TSP143III. It is not. The IV is the generation: this is a TSP100IV, Star's 2022 platform, and it is a different printer from the TSP100III in body, ports and software support. It is roughly 20 percent smaller than the III, it uses USB-C rather than USB Type-B, and it is the only one of the three TSP143 models we stock that appears on Star's CloudPRNT Next compatibility list. If you are matching an existing estate of TSP100III printers, this is not a like-for-like spare; if you are buying new, it is the current model.

Ethernet and USB-C

This part number is the dual interface build. An RJ45 Ethernet port puts the printer on the store network so any till, tablet or back-office system can reach it by address, and a USB-C port takes a direct connection from a PC or Mac when a network is not wanted. A third port, USB Type-A, is there for the device rather than the host: it supports Android Open Accessory so an Android tablet can drive the printer over the same lead that charges it, at up to 1.5 amps. What this part number does not have is Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Those live on separate Star part numbers, and at least one distributor catalogue lists wireless against this code in error.

Cloud and integration

Star lists the TSP143IV on its CloudPRNT Next compatible model table, which matters if you want a hosted ordering platform to push a receipt or a kitchen ticket to the printer without a local application in the middle. PromoPRNT can add a promotional footer to a printed receipt. On the development side Star publishes the StarXpand SDK for iOS, Android and React Native, the older StarPRNT SDK, a CloudPRNT SDK and the WebPRNT browser interface, alongside conventional Windows drivers, OPOS, JavaPOS and CUPS for Mac and Linux. Neither TSP100III model in this range supports CloudPRNT Next.

Speed and cutter life

Every TSP143 in this range prints at the same headline rate, up to 250 millimetres per second at 203 dpi, which clears a normal grocery or hospitality receipt in about a second. What separates a printer that lasts from one that does not is the cutter, and Star rates the guillotine here at two million cuts. The print head is rated for 100 kilometres of paper and the mechanism carries a 60 million line MCBF figure. For a till running two hundred transactions a day those numbers are the difference between a consumable and a fixture. Media handling is drop-in: lift the cover, drop the roll in, close it, and the printer feeds and cuts without threading.

Internal power supply

The power supply is inside the printer. That sounds like a footnote until you have wired a counter and discovered that the printer needs somewhere to hide a brick, and that the brick has to sit where a cleaner will not kick it. Star runs mains straight into the chassis at 100 to 240 volts, 50 or 60 hertz, so the only thing leaving the printer is a detachable mains cord. It makes the unit slightly deeper than a printer with an external adapter and considerably tidier once installed. It also means one fewer part to lose when a unit is moved between sites, and one fewer thing to specify when you order a replacement.

What is included

Star's datasheet for this part number lists the printer, a mains power cable, a USB-C to USB Type-A data cable, an Ethernet cable and the 58 millimetre paper guide. Shipping both interface cables is unusual and worth knowing, because it means the printer works out of the box whichever of the two connection methods you choose on the day. Some distributor listings additionally claim a mounting kit and a starter paper roll against this code; Star's own included-items list does not itemise either, so we do not claim them. If you need a wall or under-counter mount, specify it separately rather than assuming one is in the carton.

Warranty and support

Star covers this printer in the United States with a 2-year warranty, and offers EXTEND-A-STAR and SWAP-A-STAR service plans that take the term to three or four years, with SWAP-A-STAR providing an advance replacement unit rather than a repair turnaround. Note that Star's European operation publishes a longer standard term; the figure that applies to a printer bought in the United States is the 2-year one, and that is what we quote. Drivers, manuals and configuration utilities remain available from Star's support site, and the unit is Energy Star certified.

For a new counter that needs a networked receipt printer with a current-generation platform, a two million cut guillotine and no power brick to hide, the Star TSP143IVUE 39473010 is a strong choice. Contact us to learn more or secure this solution for your business today.
