Key Features

  • Genuine HPE part, listed by part number in HPE's own AOS-S and AOS-CX Transceiver Guide.
  • 10G SFP+ long-reach optic for single-mode fibre, with a duplex LC connector at 1310 nm.
  • Reaches 10 km, or 6.21 miles, on 9/125 um single-mode fibre.
  • This is an LR optic. Our live title omits the optic type, which makes it indistinguishable from an SR part.
  • Rated commercial, 0 to 70 C. The SR part J9150D in the same family is rated industrial and this one is not.
  • Requires 1 W and supports digital optical monitoring.
  • Single-mode only. The multimode 10G part is J9150D and the two do not interchange.
  • E is a current revision; the A revision was the legacy HPE X132 part and is marked end of sale in HPE's guide.
  • HPE publishes no warranty term and no weight for this optic.

Not the SR part

The most useful thing this page can do is name the optic type, because our own live title for this part number does not. J9151E is a 10GBASE-LR class part: single-mode fibre, 1310 nm, rated to 10 km on 9/125 micron. Its multimode counterpart, J9150D, is an SR part at 850 nm reaching 300 m on OM3. The two are the same form factor with the same connector, they look identical in a switch, and they will not work in each other's place - an LR module on multimode fibre or an SR module on single-mode either fails to link or links so badly it is worse than failing. Both ends of a run must be the same type as well.

Confirmed for this revision

The LR identification here is confirmed for the E revision specifically rather than inferred from the J9151 family. HPE's own guide row reads Aruba 10G SFP+ LC LR 10km SMF xcvr against J9151E with 1310 nm, 9/125 micron single-mode and 10 km, and HPE's store name for the part is HPE Aruba Networking 10G SFP+ LC LR 10km SMF Transceiver. Two independent sources agree. That matters because on optics it is common to see a family's headline specification pasted against whichever letter a supplier happens to hold, and the letters in this family do not all carry the same lifecycle status.

Commercial temperature

This optic is rated commercial, 0 to 70 C, and that is a genuine per-part difference worth checking against the site. The SR part in the same family, J9150D, carries an industrial rating of -40 to +85 C. So for a switch in a heated comms room either optic is fine, while for a cabinet in an unconditioned space, on a factory floor or outdoors in an enclosure, this part is the one with the narrower envelope. Both draw 1 W and both support digital optical monitoring, so temperature and fibre type are the two things that actually separate them on paper.

Check the switch first

No compatibility list is published on this page, and that is deliberate rather than lazy. HPE does maintain a per-switch matrix in its AOS-S and AOS-CX Transceiver Guide, but two independently worded reads of the same page returned different lists, and a compatibility claim that is wrong in either direction costs a return and an outage window. What we will say is how to settle it: HPE's transceiver guide is organised by switch series, so look up the switch rather than the optic, and check whether the platform lists this part number. Ordering a genuine HPE part number and checking it against HPE's own guide is the shortest route to a link that comes up first time, and it is what we sell here.

Revisions

HPE's current transceiver guide lists three revisions of this optic: J9151A, the legacy HPE X132 part, marked with an end-of-sale asterisk, and J9151D and J9151E, both named as Aruba 10G SFP+ LC LR 10km SMF transceivers. All three carry identical rated values - 1310 nm, 9/125 micron, 10 km, commercial temperature, 1 W - so the letter is a build and sourcing generation rather than an optical change. Two independent reads disagreed about whether J9151D also carries an end-of-sale marker, so no claim is made about that revision here. J9151C does not appear in HPE's guide at all.
