End of life. Canon U.S.A. has discontinued the imageFORMULA DR-C240 and shows it both out of stock and discontinued. Canon named the migration path on 19 November 2025, announcing the imageFORMULA DR-C350 and DR-C340 with an optional emulation tool for legacy DR-C240 and DR-C230 systems, and Barcode Printer Shop does not currently stock either model. Remaining 0651C002 stock is sold for fleet matching, replacement units and validated capture workflows where requalifying a new scanner is not practical.

Speed, corrected

Canon rates the DR-C240 at up to 45 ppm and 90 ipm in bitonal and greyscale, and at up to 30 ppm and 60 ipm in colour, on letter-size documents at 200 dpi in portrait feeding direction. Our previous title for this part number carried a bare 45 PPM, and that figure describes bitonal and greyscale scanning only: colour throughput is a third lower. This is the only Canon scanner in this group with a colour speed penalty at all, because the DR-M140, the DR-M160II and the DR-M260 each rate all three modes identically. Anyone sizing a colour-scanning workload from the 45 ppm number will overstate it by half, which on a batch of any size is a real planning error.

Feeder and duty cycle

The feeder holds 60 sheets of 80 g/m² stock, consistent across the Canon U.S.A. product page, the Canon U.S.A. specification sheet and Canon Europe. Canon U.S.A. gives the suggested daily volume as 4,000 scans, again consistently on every US reading. Canon Europe publishes a different rating for the same scanner, from 3,500 to 6,000 scans a day, which is a regional difference rather than an error; for a US deployment the 4,000 figure is the one to plan against, and the European ceiling should not be imported into it. Against the rest of the range that places the DR-C240 at the entry point on volume, with the DR-M140 at 6,000 and the two M-series verticals in a higher band again.

Passports and cards

Canon publishes an explicit passport figure for this model, which it does not do for the DR-M140 or the DR-M160II: passports up to 4 mm thick through a carrier sheet, with carrier sheets listed among Canon's own options for the scanner. Embossed plastic cards are covered just as explicitly, at 0.76 mm for a plain card and up to 1.4 mm embossed, on a card 53.9 by 85.5 mm. Canon U.S.A.'s own page prose says the scanner handles thick, thin, long or oversized documents, plastic or embossed cards and passports. For an identity desk, a branch counter or a registration office, that combination is the reason to specify this model over a faster one.

Long document mode

Long-document mode is a genuine gap in Canon's US material for this scanner rather than an omission here. The Canon U.S.A. specification sheet carries no long-document row: a targeted second pass asked for the line directly and returned it as absent, and the US product page specification table has none either. Canon Europe does publish it for the same model, at 3,000 mm maximum. Because both sources are Canon's own and only one carries the row, this listing reports the position rather than the number, and anyone whose workflow depends on continuous or oversized stock should have Canon confirm it against the US build before the order goes in.

Software bundle

Canon lists ISIS and TWAIN drivers, CaptureOnTouch, CapturePerfect, eCopy PDF Pro Office and Kofax VirtualReScan Basic for Windows. The ISIS confirmation here is the clearest of the four models, named by both Canon U.S.A. sources, which matters where a legacy capture application will not speak TWAIN. Note the VRS tier: this bundle carries VirtualReScan Basic, not the VRS Elite licence that comes with the DR-M160II sold under 0114T279, so the image-enhancement capability of the two is not equivalent. On macOS, Canon Europe lists a TWAIN driver, CaptureOnTouch and Tungsten VRS, with no ISIS driver on that platform.

Operating systems

The Canon U.S.A. specification sheet for this model is the original launch document and its operating-system section is more than a decade out of date, listing Windows XP through 8.1 with macOS 10.11 to 10.13. The newer product page lists Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2 through 2019, and macOS 10.13 to 10.15. Canon's driver selector for the model additionally offers Windows 11 and macOS through Monterey, which goes further than any Canon specification document does. Treat the selector as indicative only: the equivalent control on the DR-M160II support page proved to be a generic site-wide list running from Windows 95 upward.

Consumables

Canon names the consumable for this scanner as the Exchange Roller Kit, a feed roller plus a retard roller, and lists it among the options for the model alongside the Flatbed Scanner Unit 101 and 201, the barcode module and the 2D code module. What Canon does not publish is the part number: Canon U.S.A. sells the kit as Exchange Roller Kit SF/C/M/R Series under a store item code only. The trade numbers 0697C003 and 5595C001 come from distributors rather than from Canon, so confirm the number with Canon before ordering one. Canon publishes no replacement page count for the DR-C240, so plan replacement on observed wear rather than on a figure borrowed from another model.

Where it fits

Canon's own applications section for this model names government, financial and banking, and insurance among its sectors, and the specification supports that reading: 60 sheets at a time, 4,000 scans a day, passports and embossed cards through the ADF, and the lowest power draw of the four at 19 W with 1.4 W in sleep. It is the entry point of this range rather than its workhorse. The minimum document length of 2.8 inches is the one place it is weaker than its siblings, which take documents from 2.1 and 2.13 inches.
