End of life. Canon U.S.A. has discontinued the imageFORMULA DR-M260; its own product page reads Discontinued and no longer available. Canon has named no successor for this model, and Barcode Printer Shop does not currently stock a Canon replacement for it. Remaining 2405C002 stock is sold for fleet matching, replacement units and validated capture workflows where requalifying a new scanner is not practical.

No macOS support

Canon publishes no macOS support for the DR-M260 anywhere. The Canon U.S.A. product page lists Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012 R2 through 2019; Canon's own brochure lists Windows 7 Service Pack 1 upward and carries no Mac line in it at all. No Canon source names a single version of macOS for this scanner, and no Canon source names Windows 11 either. That is the most restrictive driver position of the four Canon scanners listed here, and it lands on the most expensive one. If the capture workstation is a Mac, or if the fleet is moving to Windows 11, this is the wrong scanner, and the point is worth settling before the order rather than after delivery.

Speed and its condition

Canon rates the DR-M260 at up to 60 ppm simplex and up to 120 ipm duplex, identical across black and white, greyscale and 24-bit colour. The condition printed in Canon's own footnote is typical settings, letter-size documents at 200 dpi, landscape feeding direction. Landscape means long edge first, and it is the more favourable way to measure a sheetfed scanner because each page spends less time crossing the sensor. Canon rates the DR-M140, the DR-M160II and the DR-C240 in portrait feed instead. So this scanner and the DR-M160II carry the same 60 ppm headline but they are not measured the same way, and the two should not be presented as an equal-speed pair without that caveat.

Media handling

This is where the DR-M260 earns its place in the range. Paper weight runs from 7 to 110 lb bond, which Canon gives in metric as 27 to 413 g/m² and up to 0.49 mm thick, by a wide margin the heaviest stock of any Canon scanner listed here. Long-document mode reaches 220 inches, or 5,588 mm, against 118 inches on the DR-M140 and the DR-M160II. The feeder holds up to 90 sheets of 80 g/m² A4 per Canon U.S.A., though Canon's own brochure prints 80 sheets and that discrepancy is real. Passports up to 6 mm thick scan through the ADF with a carrier sheet, including passports with IC chips, and embossed plastic cards up to 1.4 mm are handled.

The USB interface

The DR-M260 connects over USB 3.1 Gen 1, and it is the only Canon scanner in this group above USB 2.0. On a scanner producing 120 images a minute in colour, the host link is a real constraint rather than a specification-sheet flourish, so the faster port is worth having on a busy capture station. There is no Ethernet port and no wireless: this is a directly attached device. Canon lists the NA10 and WA10 network adapters among the accessories for this model, which is the supported route to putting it on a network; both are separate purchases and neither is stocked here. Plan the cabling around a host that sits close to the scanner.

Duty cycle

Canon U.S.A. publishes a suggested daily volume of 7,500 scans for the DR-M260, on the product page and in Canon's brochure alike, with a footnote saying the figure is calculated from scanning speed and an assumed daily time of use. Canon Middle East instead gives a band of 7,500 to 13,000 scans a day, the same band it gives for the DR-M160II. The two readings are consistent if the US number is taken as the bottom of Canon's range rather than as a ceiling. What should not be done is to read the US 7,500 here against the 13,000 printed on the DR-M160II specification sheet as though it were a ranking. Those are two points in one band.

Voltage and region

Canon prints a paired voltage code for this model and for no other in this group: 2405C002 is the 120 V build and 2405C003 is the 230 V build of the identical scanner. A US buyer wants 2405C002, and that is what this listing is. The distinction matters on export and on resale, because a unit bought for a US site and later shipped to a 230 V country is the wrong build and the correct part number exists rather than an adapter being the answer. It also matters when matching an existing fleet: the two codes differ by one character, and a purchase order carrying the wrong one will arrive looking entirely correct.

Software bundle

Canon's US bundle for this scanner is the ISIS and TWAIN drivers, CaptureOnTouch, CapturePerfect and Tungsten Virtual ReScan, which is the standard VRS rather than the Elite tier that comes with the DR-M160II bundle sold as 0114T279. ISIS is confirmed on all three Canon sources for this model, which makes it the safest of the four where a legacy ISIS capture application has to keep working. Everything in that bundle is Windows software; Canon lists no macOS component for the DR-M260 at all, which follows from the operating-system position above. Canon Middle East's regional bundle differs again and adds Tungsten Power PDF, so check what the carton in front of you actually carries.

Consumables

Canon's user manual for this scanner states the one replacement interval published anywhere in this range: when more than 200,000 pages have been fed in total, the scanner begins showing a roller-replacement message at startup, and the worn feed roller plus retard roller are then replaced from an Exchange Roller Kit. Canon U.S.A. sells that kit as Exchange Roller Kit SF/C/M/R Series with a store item code and no trade part number published. The number circulating in the channel is 5595C001, which is distributor-sourced rather than Canon-stated, so confirm it with Canon before ordering. Canon also lists an A4 carrier sheet and a passport carrier sheet as accessories for this model.
