Brand and colour

PA03805-B005 is the ScanSnap iX1300 Standard Edition in white. The black unit is PA03805-B105, a different part number that we do not stock, and Ricoh USA's own iX1300 product page is built around that black SKU, so it is not authority for this one beyond the shared specification. On the brand: PFU renamed its fi Series scanners from Fujitsu to Ricoh on 13 April 2023, but the same announcement states that ScanSnap remains the primary brand for consumer and small-business scanners. So this is a Ricoh ScanSnap iX1300. It is not a Ricoh fi anything, and Fujitsu ScanSnap is retired. The two brand strings are not interchangeable, and mixing them describes a product that does not exist.

No TWAIN or ISIS

This is the qualifying question on the iX1300 and it should be asked before anything else. ScanSnap is a closed software stack: ScanSnap Home is both the driver and the application. Ricoh's own FAQ is categorical that the ScanSnap series does not support TWAIN or ISIS drivers, that ScanSnap Home must be installed as the driver, and that scanning applications built on TWAIN or ISIS cannot detect a ScanSnap in their scanner list at all. Ricoh's own SKU page for this part prints TWAIN Driver: No and sends the reader to the RICOH fi Series instead. So a site running Kofax, ImageNow, DocuWare, Laserfiche or any other ISIS or TWAIN capture front end cannot use this scanner. Every fi Series unit we list can.

Speed and modes

Ricoh rates the iX1300 at 30 ppm and 60 ipm, and quotes 30 ppm for simplex and duplex alike, because the scanner captures both faces of a sheet in one pass: 60 images a minute out of 30 sheets. That rate holds across the everyday quality settings up to 300 dpi in colour, and it falls to 9 ppm at the top setting, which is 600 dpi in colour or grayscale and 1,200 dpi in monochrome. The setting names are not given here on purpose, because Ricoh labels the same modes differently between its regional and global specifications; the behaviour is identical in both. The straight-through return path is quoted per page rather than per minute: 5 seconds a page at everyday settings and 14 seconds at the top one.

Wireless and USB

The iX1300 is the only scanner in our Ricoh range with a radio and the only one without a wired network port. Wi-Fi is IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac on both 2.4 and 5 GHz, in two modes: access point connect, where the scanner joins an existing network, and direct connect, where a PC or phone associates with the scanner itself and no infrastructure is needed. The wired interface is USB 3.2 Gen1x1 on a Type-B connector, backward compatible to USB 1.1. There is no Ethernet port. A site that manages devices by cable, or whose wireless policy will not admit an unmanaged scanner, needs a different model: the fi Series units here are Gigabit Ethernet with no Wi-Fi, the exact mirror of this one.

Two paper paths

There are two ways into this scanner and neither is a flatbed. The U-turn path takes a 20-sheet automatic feeder and bends the page back on itself, which is the one used for ordinary multi-page batches. The return path runs straight through the front of the body for anything too thick or too stiff to bend: Ricoh rates it for 20 to 413 g/m² media and for plastic cards up to 1.4 mm including embossed ones, while Ricoh USA states a 2 mm maximum thickness for manual-feed documents, which is the limit a buyer meets first. Both paths take originals from 2 by 2 inches up to 8.5 by 14 inches, with long-paper scanning to 431.8 mm. The 20-sheet hopper is the constraint to plan around.

Not published by Ricoh

Three things a buyer might expect are missing from Ricoh's own material for the iX1300, and they are absent rather than merely unfound. Ricoh publishes no expected daily volume for any ScanSnap model - four passes across the SKU page, the global specification, the regional brochure and Ricoh USA returned nothing - where every fi Series scanner we list publishes one. The fi-800R's 4,500 sheets a day must not be read across. Ricoh publishes no multifeed or ultrasonic double-feed row for the iX1300 either, so treat overlap detection as unpublished rather than present. And no package-contents list is published, so what is in the carton beyond the scanner is not stated here.

Warranty and consumables

Cover on the iX1300 is one year of Depot Service, which is mail-in repair: the unit goes back to Ricoh and comes home fixed. That is a materially weaker position than the Advance Exchange cover on every fi Series scanner here, where a replacement ships before the failed unit is returned, and it is part of what the lower price buys. Ricoh offers a one-year Depot Protection Plan extension. On consumables the ScanSnap uses a pad rather than a brake roller: pad unit PA03805-0022 is rated up to 30,000 sheets or one year, and pick roller PA03805-0021 up to 100,000 sheets or one year. The pad is the short-interval item, and the 200,000-sheet brake roller figure from the fi-8000 units does not apply here.

Newer models exist

The iX1300 is current. It does not appear on Ricoh's discontinued register, its product page carries no discontinued marker, and Ricoh still sells and supports it. That register is worth trusting, because Ricoh signposts real retirements in the page title itself: the iX1500 page is headed DISCONTINUED and names the iX2500 as its replacement. What is also true is that Ricoh has launched the ScanSnap iX2400 and iX2500, announced in October and November 2025, and flags both as new in the navigation and the comparison chart on the iX1300's own page. So this is a current model in a range that has moved on. For one unit that is not a problem. For a fleet, or where a long service life is being planned, ask Ricoh where the iX1300 sits before committing.
