The 1200g is corded, so without a cable it cannot reach a host at all and a second line on the order is not optional. The absence of a USB token in the part number is what makes this the bare unit; the -2 is the colour code for black and says nothing about cabling. Buy it to replace a failed scanner on a bench that already holds cables, or where the host wants RS232 or keyboard wedge rather than USB. Do not buy it as a first deployment. A 13 mil UPC-A reads from 0 to 311 mm (0 to 12.2 in), so a retail counter sits comfortably inside it. Tight codes come in closer: 5 mil Code 39 wants 27 to 151 mm and 7.5 mil wants 16 to 216 mm. Host connections
The 1200g is a multi-interface scanner and the interface is chosen by the cable rather than by the part number. RS232 at TTL plus 5 V, keyboard wedge, and USB in HID keyboard, serial or IBM OEM modes are all supported natively. RS-232C at plus or minus 12 V and IBM RS485 are supported through an adapter cable, which is a separate line on the order rather than a setting to change. Where it fits
The 1200g is a general-duty counter scanner. It suits retail checkout, hospitality, back-office receiving, light warehousing, and any bench where the codes are printed 1D labels that will not change. The case for it over a 2D imager is cost and simplicity: where the codes are linear, a laser does the job and does it cheaply. The case against it is any 2D requirement at all, now or in the plan, because it cannot be upgraded to read them.
