Honeywell offers the PS-05-1000W-X separately, and the base will run on USB power alone at 2.5 W, charging more slowly than the 5 W the optional supply provides. What it cannot do is decode a two-dimensional symbol. Honeywell states the decode capability as standard 1D and GS1 DataBar symbologies, and no configuration barcode adds QR, Data Matrix or PDF417 to that list. If any part of the workflow touches a mobile coupon, a 2D shipping label or a driving licence, this is the wrong scanner and an area imager is the right one. A 13 mil UPC-A reads from 0 to 311 mm (0 to 12.2 in), so a retail counter sits comfortably inside it. Tight codes come in closer: 5 mil Code 39 wants 27 to 151 mm and 7.5 mil wants 16 to 216 mm. Print contrast is 10% minimum reflectance difference, the more forgiving of the two figures in this range, and light tolerance runs from darkness to 70,000 lux. The sibling 1250g reads further at 13 mil but starts further out, so the two are not interchangeable on close work.

Honeywell publishes no batch-mode storage capacity for this model, so no figure for stored scans is quoted here.

Base and power

The CCB00-010BT-01N in this kit is a charge and communication base: it carries the host connection and it charges the scanner when the handset is seated. What is not in the kit is the power supply. Honeywell offers the PS-05-1000W-X separately, and its Quick Start Guide refers to the power supply assembly as included only if ordered. The base will run on USB power alone at 2.5 W, which is 0.5 A at 5 V; with the optional supply it takes 5 W at 1 A and charges faster. Settle that before the order goes in. A single scanner on a quiet counter is fine on USB power, while a unit that has to be back in service inside the same shift wants the supply. Host interfaces are delivered by the base: USB, keyboard wedge, RS232, IBM 46xx over RS485.

Build and warranty

Honeywell rates the 1202g scanner for 30 drops to concrete from 1.5 m (5 ft) and the base for 30 drops from 1 m (3.3 ft), which is the lower figure of the two and the one to plan a counter around. No tumble specification is published for either. Sealing needs a caveat: the data sheet prints IP42 and Honeywell's own product page prints IP41, and both were confirmed on repeated reads, so the data sheet value is used here and the conflict is stated rather than hidden. If sealing is written into a contract, have Honeywell confirm it. The battery also narrows the temperature envelope against the corded siblings: operating 5 to 40 C and storage -5 to 35 C, where the corded 1200g runs to 50 C and stores to 60 C. Warranty is three years, with one year on the battery.

TAA compliance

The trailing -N on this part number is the TAA-compliant build, assembled in Mexico, and it is a procurement fact rather than a cosmetic one. Federal agencies, GSA schedule holders, many state and local governments, plus prime contractors flowing Trade Agreements Act clauses down to their suppliers, are required to buy compliant hardware, and a part number without the -N does not satisfy that requirement even though it is the same scanner. Honeywell's own description string for an -N part is character for character identical to the standard build with the words assembled in Mexico, TAA Compliant appended, so the carton contents are unchanged and nothing about the hardware differs. If the buyer is commercial the non-N part is the equivalent; if the buyer is public sector, this is the part number that goes on the contract.

Where it fits

The 1202g suits work where the code cannot come to the counter: a shop floor where stock is scanned on the shelf, a stockroom, a small warehouse, a service counter where the operator turns away from the till to read a carton. Within 10 m of its base it removes the cable without changing the workflow. Against the corded 1250g and 1200g it costs more, carries a shorter warranty at three years rather than five, has a narrower temperature envelope because of the battery, and adds a battery to manage. Against a 2D imager it has the same hard limit as the rest of this range: it reads 1D symbologies only, and nothing configures that away.
