This kit is the black 1470g scanner plus a CBL-500-150-S00 USB Type A cable, straight, 1.5 m long. There is no stand: Honeywell's string for this part number stops at the cable, where the otherwise identical 1470G2D-2USB-1-N adds the words with stand, and two independent sources confirm nothing else is in the box. Note the cable length, because it is the value most likely to be copied wrongly from a sibling. The 1470g kits ship 1.5 m; the Xenon XP 1952g and Xenon Ultra 1960g kits ship 3 m on part CBL-500-300-S00. A 1.5 m lead reaches from a till to a PC under the counter, not across a bench. 1470G2D-2USB-1-N is this same kit with the presentation stand added, and 1470G2D-2-N is the bare scanner with no cable at all.

Imaging engine

The Voyager XP 1470g is an area imager, and that has to be said plainly because two distributors describe it as 1D/2D Laser/Omni-directional. Honeywell's own data sheet prints Area Image with a 1040 by 720 pixel array, and there is no laser engine in this scanner. The distinction is not academic. An imager takes a picture and decodes whatever is in the frame, which is why this unit tolerates 180 degrees of roll, 65 degrees of pitch and 70 degrees of skew, and why it reads standard 1D, PDF, 2D and DotCode symbologies where a single-line laser reads 1D only. Honeywell publishes that as category wording rather than an itemised list, so the categories are what is quoted here. The 2D token in the part number is a real capability gate: Honeywell's Quick Start Guide distinguishes model 1470g2D from model 1470g1D, and this is the 2D one.

Working range

Working range is published per symbology. A 13 mil UPC reads from 18 to 400 mm (0.7 to 15.8 in), which covers a counter and a step back from it. A 20 mil QR code reads from 5 to 325 mm (0.2 to 12.8 in). Tighter marks come in closer: 5 mil Code 39 wants 20 to 205 mm (0.8 to 8.1 in), 6.7 mil PDF417 wants 15 to 185 mm and 10 mil Data Matrix wants 10 to 165 mm (0.4 to 6.5 in). The 1470g is offered in one optical configuration, standard range, so there is no SR or HD choice to get wrong.

Build and sealing

Honeywell rates the 1470g for 30 drops to concrete from 1.8 m (6 ft) and for 1,000 tumbles at 0.5 m (1.6 ft), which is a genuinely rugged specification for a counter scanner and a step above the Voyager laser range's 1.5 m. Sealing is IP52, and that figure needs a note. The current Honeywell data sheet, Rev E of December 2022, prints IP52, while older Rev A copies from June 2019 still circulating on distributor sites print IP40. The newer Honeywell-hosted revision is used here, so a specification sheet quoting IP40 against this part number is out of date rather than describing a different unit. The scanner measures 62 by 169 by 82 mm and weighs 130 g (4.6 oz). Operating temperature is 0 to 50 C, storage runs from -40 to 60 C, and the warranty is five years.

Host connections

The 1470g supports USB, keyboard wedge, RS-232 and RS485 for IBM 46xx point-of-sale hosts, and which one it speaks is decided by the cable rather than by the part number. That is why the bare 1470G2D-2-N exists: a site with a mixed estate can hold one scanner model and cable it three ways rather than stocking three part numbers. On the two USB kits the choice is already made and the cable in the box is USB Type A. It is worth repeating the length here because it is the value most often carried across wrongly: the 1470g kits ship the CBL-500-150-S00 at 1.5 m, while the Xenon XP 1952g and Xenon Ultra 1960g kits ship the CBL-500-300-S00 at 3 m.

TAA compliance

The trailing -N on this part number is the TAA-compliant build, assembled in Mexico, and it is a procurement fact rather than a cosmetic one. Federal agencies, GSA schedule holders, many state and local governments, plus prime contractors flowing Trade Agreements Act clauses down to their suppliers, are required to buy compliant hardware, and a part number without the -N does not satisfy that requirement even though it is the same scanner. Honeywell's own description string for an -N part is character for character identical to the standard build with the words assembled in Mexico, TAA Compliant appended, so the carton contents are unchanged and nothing about the hardware differs. Honeywell renders the region on this part as NA and LA. If the buyer is commercial the non-N part is the equivalent; if the buyer is public sector, this is the part number that goes on the contract.

Where it fits

The 1470g is a general-duty 2D scanner for retail checkout, pharmacy, hospitality, receiving and any counter that has to read whatever turns up on a carton or a phone. The case for it over the Voyager 1250g laser in the same brand is simply 2D: mobile coupons, driving licences, vaccination records and 2D shipping labels are all codes a single-line laser cannot see at all. The case for it over the Xenon Ultra 1960g is cost and size, and the case against it is reach and ruggedness, since the 1960g in standard range reads a 13 mil UPC to 654 mm against this unit's 400 mm and carries a 3.0 m drop against this unit's 1.8 m.
