The MK prefix is Honeywell's kit code, and this kit is the dark gray MS3780 Fusion scanner, the 46-00225 weighted presentation stand, a coiled low-speed USB Type A cable at 2.9 m or 9.5 ft carrying 5 V host power, and the printed documentation. No power supply is needed or supplied, because the scanner draws 1.4 W from the host. The stand is what makes this a dual-mode product rather than a plain handheld: seated in it the scanner reads hands-free in omnidirectional mode, and lifted out it works as a trigger scanner. The bare scanner without the kit carries an MS prefix instead, so a part number beginning MS3780 is not this product and does not include the stand or the cable.

Not the Verifone kit

One correction is carried into this listing deliberately. Honeywell's own Fusion 3780 ordering table shows this part number against a description reading RS232 Verifone Kit, with a Veri-Ruby 10 pin RJ45 cable. That description belongs to MK3780-31A62, and the table is misaligned by a row. Four independent sources describe MK3780-61A38 as a USB kit with a coiled USB cable and a stand in dark gray, and Honeywell's own suffix scheme agrees: the trailing 38 means low-speed USB on this part and on the MK5145, MK7120 and MK3580 alike, while 62 is the Verifone code and 47 is PS/2 keyboard wedge. Anyone ordering this part number for a Verifone Ruby till will receive the wrong cable.

Laser scan patterns

The Fusion earns its name from two scan patterns in one head. In hands-free mode it projects an omnidirectional pattern of five fields of four parallel lines, 20 lines in all, at 1,333 scan lines per second, so a carton can be swept past at any orientation and still read. Press the button and it collapses to a single line at 67 scan lines per second, which is what you want for picking one barcode out of a menu sheet or a densely printed label where an omnidirectional pattern would grab the neighbour. The light source is a visible laser diode at 650 nm, Class 1 to IEC 60825-1. It reads standard 1D and GS1 DataBar codes, and it cannot read 2D codes at all.

Honeywell publishes range by narrow element width rather than as a single figure. A 5.2 mil code wants to be held between 1.8 in and 4.3 in. A 7.5 mil code reads from 1.0 in to 7.5 in, a 10.4 mil from 1.0 in to 9.5 in, a 13 mil from 1.0 in to 11.0 in, and a 21 mil from 1.0 in to 12.0 in. Minimum bar width is 0.127 mm, or 5.0 mil. Pitch and skew tolerance are 60 degrees each; no tilt or roll figure is published in either the data sheet or the user's guide, so none is quoted. Ambient light immunity is 4,842 lux, which is an indoor figure and reflects what this scanner is for.

Host connections

The scanner itself supports USB, RS-232, keyboard wedge, IBM 46xx over RS-485 and OCIA, with the user's guide adding stand-alone keyboard and light pen emulation to the list. This kit is cabled for low-speed USB, which is the interface the trailing 38 encodes, and the coiled 2.9 m lead is part 53-53235-N-3. Operating temperature runs from minus 20 C to 40 C, storage from minus 40 C to 60 C, and humidity from 5% to 95% non-condensing. That sub-zero operating floor is unusual on a counter scanner and makes it workable in a chilled goods-in area. The unit is 189 by 65 by 73 mm and weighs 195 g, and the warranty is three years from the factory.

Availability

This part number needs an honest status. Every distributor checked treats the Fusion 3780 as discontinued, and one shows it on backorder. Honeywell itself publishes no end-of-life notice, no date and no successor: the Fusion 3780 product page is still live, still lists this part number as orderable, and Honeywell still sells one and five year Gold service contracts against it. Because there is no Honeywell announcement, this listing carries no end-of-life banner and no date is invented for one. Treat it as a fleet-matching purchase with availability confirmed at the time of order. One distributor cross-sells a Voyager MS9540 in its place; that is a distributor's suggestion, not a Honeywell designation, and the MS9540 is itself a legacy laser.

Where it fits
