The replacement is the PC45T, and Honeywell's channel text names PC45T000000201 as the successor to this exact configuration - which Barcode Printer Shop does not currently stock. Honeywell also marks this part non-cancellable and non-refundable in its own channel terms. Remaining PC43TB00100201 stock is sold for fleet matching, replacement units and validated workflows where requalifying a new model is not practical.

Intermec badging. Intermec is a Honeywell brand: Honeywell acquired Intermec in 2013 and the PC43 platform shipped under both marks, so a unit may arrive badged Intermec rather than Honeywell depending on production date. Some of the photographs on this listing show the Intermec badge for that reason. The part number, the specification, the Honeywell service dates and the warranty are identical either way.

Configuration decoded

PC43TB00100201 is the thermal transfer PC43t with Latin fonts, no network module, the colour LCD and real time clock, 203 dpi, and a US power cord. Honeywell's own channel description for this exact part number ends USB 2.0 and 2 USB host ports, includes Latin fonts, US power cord, with no LAN token anywhere in it, and that absence is the whole difference from PC43TB01100201. One caution about that decode: Honeywell's own configuration article is a JavaScript-gated support page that returns nothing, so this reading is reconstructed by contrasting Honeywell's channel descriptions across nine PC43 part numbers. Positions 6, 10, 11 and 13 are left undecoded rather than guessed at.

Print method

The T in PC43t is the thermal transfer mechanism, and it means this printer has a ribbon path fitted. That is not a restriction, because a thermal transfer printer also prints direct thermal: the same unit handles a resin label meant to survive a year on a drum and a plain direct thermal shipping label with no ribbon loaded at all. Honeywell's own product page lists the print method as thermal transfer alone, which reads as though direct thermal is unsupported; Honeywell's own ordering description for this part number says thermal transfer and direct thermal, and that is the accurate one. The direct-thermal-only sibling is the PC43d, which has no ribbon path and cannot be converted.

One character apart

These two part numbers differ by exactly one character out of fourteen, and it is not the character most people assume. Position 8 is the network field: this one carries a 0 and is USB only, while PC43TB01100201 carries a 1 and has the 10/100 Ethernet module fitted. Nothing else changes. Both are 203 dpi, both have the colour LCD, both have the real time clock, both take 25.4 mm and 38.1 mm cores, both are tear-off, both ship a US cord. If more than one workstation has to print to this unit, order the Ethernet part number instead; the LAN module is factory-fitted and is not a field upgrade to this one.

Interfaces fitted

This configuration carries a USB 2.0 device port and two USB host ports, and no network interface of any kind. There is no Ethernet on this part number, no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, no serial and no parallel port, and none of them can be enabled in software. Honeywell does publish an Ethernet module, a dual radio module carrying 802.11 b, g and n with Bluetooth, a USB-to-serial adapter and a USB-to-parallel adapter for this platform, but every one of them is a field-installable option and this printer is built with none. Ribbon and media

Ribbon capacity depends on the core: a 12.7 mm core takes up to 91 m and a 25.4 mm core up to 300 m, with a maximum ribbon width of 110 mm and a minimum of 25.4 mm. The longer ribbon is the one to plan around for unattended runs. Honeywell does not publish whether the printer expects ink-side-in or ink-side-out ribbon, so that is worth confirming before a bulk ribbon order rather than assuming. Media runs 19 mm to 118 mm wide on a roll up to 127 mm across, on either a 25.4 mm or a 38.1 mm core, from 0.06 mm to 0.15 mm thick or to 0.20 mm with the thick media spring kit. This configuration is tear-off: no cutter, no dispenser, no rewinder.

Printer languages

The command language set is the reason a PC43 turns up as a replacement for a printer that is not a Honeywell at all. It runs IPL and DP natively, ZSim2 as a ZPL-II emulation, DSim as a Datamax DPL emulation and ESim as an EPL emulation, and it is XML enabled for SAP AII and Oracle WMS. In practice that means an existing ZPL or EPL label format can be sent to this printer without being rewritten, which is where the cost of a printer swap usually sits. ESim is worth singling out: the PXie industrial range does NOT include EPL emulation, so a site replacing an older EPL Zebra can drop in a PC43 and cannot drop in a PXie. Configuration is by PrintSet, with drivers for Windows and CUPS for Linux.

Two figures withheld

Two figures that competitors print against this model are deliberately absent here, and both are absent because Honeywell contradicts itself. The first is print speed: Honeywell's own PC23, PC43 and PC43t data sheet and Honeywell's own product page for this model give different maximum speeds for the same 203 dpi printer, and both were confirmed on repeat fetches of both documents, including the UK page. No speed figure is published on this listing because there is no single Honeywell figure to publish. The second is FCC emissions class, where the same data sheet lists one class under Regulatory Approvals and a different one under EMC Approvals. Fleet matching so one spare covers every bench, replacing a failed printer without requalifying label formats, and keeping a validated healthcare workflow untouched are all sound reasons. Starting a new deployment on it is not. Honeywell sells remaining stock non-cancellable and non-refundable.
