No PoE, at all
This supply delivers no Power over Ethernet, and that is the fact our live title leaves out. HPE's wording is unambiguous: a 250 watt power supply for the non-PoE switches, which does not provide any PoE power, and which is keyed so that it will not fit into the power supply slots of PoE switches. The reason is the rail voltage. This unit produces 12 VDC, which is system power for the switch itself, while PoE on Aruba switches runs off a 54 VDC rail supplied by the X372 family. A customer buying this to power a floor of phones has bought a part that will not even seat in the slot, which is at least a fast failure rather than a slow one.
Which switches take it
HPE lists this supply against non-PoE switches in three families and the lists were confirmed twice each. On the 2930M it is the 24-port JL319A and the 48-port JL321A. On the 3810M it is JL071A, JL072A, JL075A and JL430A. On the CX 6300M it covers the non-PoE models: JL658A, JL663A, JL664A, R8S92A, S4P43A, S4P44A, S4P47A and S4P48A. Every one of those is a switch with no PoE hardware, which is the pattern rather than a coincidence. If the target switch has PoE in its name or its port description, this is the wrong supply and the X372 family is the right one.
Not an external brick
The X371 is a modular supply that slides into a power supply slot inside the switch. It is not an external desktop brick, and listing copy that describes it as an external power supply is wrong on a point that changes what a buyer expects to receive. HPE documents these supplies as hot-swappable in the specific sense that matters: a supply disconnected from its source can be installed or removed while the switch continues to run on another supply installed in the other slot. So redundancy is what makes the swap live. HPE recommends that both supplies match for full redundancy on a fully populated switch, while not requiring it.
Electrical input
HPE rates this supply at 100 to 240 volts AC, drawing 3 A at the low end of that range down to 1.2 A at the high end, 50 to 60 Hz, with an operating range of 0 to 45 C. The input range is worth checking against the X372 rather than assuming the family shares it: the PoE supply starts at 110 V, not 100 V, so a nominal 100 V feed suits this unit and not that one. There is one internal disagreement in HPE's own documents to note - the 3810M QuickSpecs print a much lower current figure for this part than three separate HPE hardware guides do. The power cord question
No claim is made on this page about a power cord in the carton, and that is deliberate. HPE publishes cord content for this part through localisation option codes on the base part number, and the codes it publishes are #B2B and #B2C for a supply-to-PDU cord, #B2E for a high-voltage wall cord, and #AC3, which means no power cord at all. HPE publishes no #ABA option for this part, so there is no manufacturer document describing what an #ABA carton holds. #ABA is a real code in US distribution and it denotes US English localisation rather than any electrical or mechanical difference - but on the cord specifically, ask us to confirm with the distributor rather than assume one is included.
