Search results for this phone split across two numbers and both are correct. 82M92AA is HP's SKU and is what HP's own product page uses; 2200-87815-025 is the number Poly's Edge E300 Series datasheet prints, as one string reading POLY EDGE E300 IP PHONE. They are the same physical phone from the same factory, not two builds, and dealers routinely list them together. Both appear on this page deliberately so that a part number copied off an old quote, an asset register or a competitor's site lands here rather than nowhere. What must not happen is the two numbers being treated as separate products on a purchase order, because that is how one desk ends up with two phones.

Lines and display

The E300 has eight line keys and supports up to 32 line-key assignments across lines, contacts and features, which is a different arrangement from every other phone on this brand page. It is not the six-line VVX 311, and it is not the fourteen-key dual-screen Edge E450. The screen is a single colour 3.5 in IPS LCD at 320 by 240 pixels, and there is no second display, so any reference to a secondary BLF screen has leaked from the E450 page. Poly positions the E300 for cubicle workers, call centres and small businesses, which is a fair description of where eight keys is the right number: enough for a small hunt group or a handful of monitored extensions, not enough for a receptionist watching a floor.

Power over Ethernet

This phone is fully powered from a standard PoE port. Poly's own line is auto-sensing IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet at Class 3, drawing 13 W maximum, which any ordinary PoE switch or injector supplies without special provisioning. That is why there is no adapter in the box, and it is not an omission: PoE is the intended configuration and the adapter exists for the case where it is absent. Check the switch before ordering. If the desk drop comes off a plain unpowered port the phone will not start, and the fix is the separately ordered adapter, which is 2200-49925-001 for North America and Japan. Note the Edge adapters run 5 V and the VVX 311 adapter runs 48 V, so nothing carries across from an older Polycom estate.

No radios

The E300 is the plainest member of its own series and that is the fact most likely to be got wrong on a listing, because its datasheet is shared with the E320 and the E350. There is no Bluetooth on this phone, so no Bluetooth headset and no mobile-phone pairing. There is no Wi-Fi, so it needs a wired drop. Poly's comparison table states both exclusions directly, scoping the Bluetooth line to the E320 and E350, and the Wi-Fi line to the E350 alone. Two independently worded passes of the same datasheet also found no expansion module section at all. Anything on a competing page promising Bluetooth pairing, wireless networking or a sidecar has been inherited from a model further up the range.

Open SIP only

The Edge E300 runs Poly Voice OS 8.0.0 or later and speaks Open SIP, which HP's own knowledge base states as the only entry in the platform column for this model. Asked directly whether Microsoft Teams appears as a supported platform, the answer was no. There is no Teams SKU and no Skype for Business SKU of this phone, so a Microsoft-first estate needs different hardware rather than a different order code. What the platform does give is deployment plumbing: central provisioning over FTP, FTPS, TFTP, HTTP or HTTPS for mass rollouts, provisioning and call server redundancy, event logging, syslog, hardware diagnostics and status reporting. The Edge E Series carries Zoom and Google Voice certifications at series level.

In the box

Poly's own list is the console, the handset, the handset cord, a CAT-5E network cable, the desk stand and a setup sheet. Three of those items are named with Microban antimicrobial protection attached: the console, the handset and the handset cord. That is quoted from the datasheet rather than from marketing material, and it was returned identically on two passes. What is not in the carton is a power supply, a headset or a wall-mount kit. The phone is wall mountable but the kit is a separate order and Poly's datasheet does not print its part number. Published carton figures are 22.3 by 27.8 by 8.8 cm at 0.96 kg, and those are BOX dimensions and BOX weight, not the phone's own.

Where it fits

Buy the E300 where the requirement is a current, supported, wired desk phone with a colour screen and eight keys, on an estate that runs Open SIP. It is the natural replacement for an end-of-support VVX 301 or VVX 311 sitting on the same desk, and unlike those phones it is in the shipping generation with no end-of-sale notice against it. Do not buy it if you need Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, because neither can be added by configuration and the answer is the E320 or the E350. Do not buy it if the user watches more than 32 line appearances, because there is no expansion module for this model. And do not buy it for a Microsoft Teams deployment.
