What separates it

Two things separate the three Voyager Focus 2 part numbers we list, and this one sits on the far side of both. It is the Microsoft Teams certified build, not the standard UC build, and HP's own product title for 77Y87AA contains no UC token anywhere in it. It also ships the desktop charging stand. Teams certification here is a firmware variant rather than a badge on the carton, so putting this headset into a non-Teams UC estate is a functional mismatch and not a preference. A dealer additionally describes a one-touch Teams button on this build; HP publishes the certification, and that is what is claimed here. The standard UC headset with the same stand is 213727-01, and the standard UC headset without a stand is 213726-01.

On-ear, not over-ear

Our live titles on this range say over-ear and that is wrong. HP's own specification tables give the headphone type as on-ear on all three part numbers, two-passed on each, and manufacturer data republished elsewhere gives the earpiece design as on-ear as well. Poly's own marketing copy never uses the words over-ear or over-the-ear anywhere; it says ultra-comfortable headband with a super-cushioned sling and plush ear cushions, and the datasheet carries no form-factor row at all. On-ear means the cushion rests on the ear rather than enclosing it. That is a genuine comfort and isolation difference over a long shift, and it is exactly the kind of expectation that generates a return when a listing gets it wrong.

Two noise systems

There are two separate noise-cancelling systems here and they are routinely conflated. The earcup side is what the wearer hears: digital hybrid ANC built on two digital MEMS microphones together with two analog ECM microphones, with three user settings of off, low and high selected on the headset itself. The microphone side is what the far end hears: a discrete noise-cancelling boom using Acoustic Fence, which HP describes plainly as noise reduction on outgoing voice audio. They share one four-microphone array but they solve opposite problems. Turning ANC off does not stop your colleagues hearing your office, and Acoustic Fence does nothing about the open-plan noise reaching your own ears.

Battery, with conditions

The headline number on this headset is 25 hours of talk time and it should never be quoted bare, because it is conditional twice over. HP's own string qualifies it as ANC off AND the online indicator off, and HP footnotes that the second of those needs a setting change through Poly Lens. Out of the box, at default settings, talk time is up to 18 hours with ANC off and up to 16 hours with ANC on. Listening to music gives up to 40 hours with ANC off and up to 24 hours with ANC on, and standby runs up to 30 days. The cell is 560 mAh lithium-ion and a full charge takes two hours. Every one of those figures is an up-to figure at HP's own test conditions.

The charge stand

The stand charges the headset and does nothing else. Poly's own datasheet row for this configuration reads desk charger only, and that phrasing is deliberate: it is not a DECT base, it adds no wireless range, it adds no call-control buttons and it carries no softphone selector. Range comes from the headset's own Bluetooth radio and the BT700 adapter in the PC, at up to 50 m or 164 ft, and it is the same whether the stand is on the desk or in a cupboard. What the stand genuinely buys is habit: a headset that always has somewhere to sit is a headset that is charged at nine in the morning. The base that does carry a Teams button and a softphone selector belongs to the Voyager Focus 2 Office, which is a different product.

Adapter and pairing

The BT700 Bluetooth USB adapter in the box is USB-A, not USB-C. That matters because USB-C twins of these headsets exist on adjacent part numbers and the boxes look alike. Poly's user guide describes the adapter as providing the best connection, softphone functionality and acoustic sound quality, which is the honest framing: the headset also pairs natively to a phone or a laptop over ordinary Bluetooth, so the adapter is the full-feature path rather than a requirement. Multipoint keeps two devices connected at once and the headset remembers up to eight, so a laptop and a mobile can both stay paired. Poly publishes Bluetooth profiles only - A2DP, AVRCP, HSP and HFP - and no codec list at all.

Where it fits

Poly recommends this headset for professionals on calls all day in noisy home or office environments, and the specification supports that reading: stereo on both ears, a boom microphone rather than an in-line one, three levels of ANC and hearing protection that holds the daily average below 85 dBA. Buy it where somebody wears a headset for hours rather than for a stand-up. Do not buy it where the user needs one ear free for the room, because this is a binaural design. And settle the firmware variant against the platform before ordering: Teams firmware is the wrong load for a non-Teams softphone, and a UC build in a Teams estate gives up the certified behaviour.
